This is how I record Crazy Kings video from my iPad, using a cable to my Mac. It's quite easy, but I didn't know how to do it until I looked it up, so figured someone else may find this useful. Even if you don't upload your videos, it's handy to review a previous run to see what you can improve. I assume this works with iPhones too. I'm not sure how to record using a Windows PC; Quicktime is no longer supported for Windows.
- Connect the iPad to your Mac using the iPad's charging cable, which has a USB connector on one end, and Lightning connector on the iPad end.
- Pull up Spotlight on your Mac (either click on the magnifying glass on the far right of your Mac's menu bar, or press Option-Space to pull up Spotlight). In the Spotlight search window, type "quicktime", or the first few letters of it until it autocompletes "Quicktime Player", then press enter to launch Quicktime Player.
- Go to the File menu in Quicktime and choose New Movie Recording.
- Quicktime will open a window that probably shows your face from the Mac's camera. There's a downward arrow next to the red circle "record" button in the window. Click that arrow, and choose your iPad for the camera input, then click it again and choose your iPad for the microphone input. Now the Quicktime window should show whatever is shown on your iPad.
- Your iPad works just like normal, except its sound will come out of your Mac instead of your iPad. You can adjust the volume in the Quicktime window so you can hear the game through your Mac.
- When when you're ready to record, click the red circle "record" button in the Quicktime window. It changes to a black square "stop" button. Play the game, then click the "stop" button to finish recording.
- You can now play the video back, save the video, or do rudimentary editing (e.g. trimming out a portion) using Quicktime.
No special conversions are needed if you want to upload the video to Youtube. You just log into your Youtube account, choose "upload", select the video file you saved, and it should start uploading.
